Well said Matt! I would also ask: Who is the “seer” observing the mind? Is it pure awareness/consciousness perceiving itself through the lens of thought? I often coach clients and audiences who find it difficult to dissociate from their thoughts to answer the question: “If you are your thoughts, what are you going to think next?” They quickly realise that thoughts are electrical episodes that come and go from the mind and there is no point attaching oneself to them. Similarly, according to Dr. Daniel Siegel who writes in Mindsight, he uses a method called Name It to Tame It with respect to noticing our emotions instead of being overwhelmed by them.
